for hooded eyes
WEDDING MAKEUP
If you have hooded eyes, you’re not alone – it’s one of the most common eye shapes, and it’s beautiful. But when it comes to makeup, hooded eyes do need a slightly different approach. The right techniques can lift, brighten and enhance your eyes, without anything feeling heavy or overdone.
What Are Hooded Eyes?
Hooded eyes have a fold of skin that droops down over the crease, often hiding some of the eyelid when your eyes are open. It can make applying eyeshadow or liner a bit trickier if you're not used to it, but with the right products and placement, hooded eyes absolutely shine.
It’s All in the Technique
One of the best ways to enhance hooded eyes is by blending eyeshadow slightly higher than you might think – softly diffusing colour above the natural crease and toward the brow bone. This helps create the illusion of more lid space and makes the eyes look bigger and more lifted. We’re not changing anything – just enhancing what’s already there.
Definition Without Harsh Lines
A well-placed liner can work wonders, but harsh or heavy lines can easily disappear on hooded eyes. Instead, I use soft definition through the lashes – usually a rich brown or charcoal, gently smudged – to give shape without closing the eyes off. And a subtle shimmer or highlight in the centre of the lid or inner corner, can make your eyes appear more open and bright.
Lashes That Work With You, Not Against You
Strip lashes can feel heavy or look too dense on hooded eyes, so I use individual or cluster lashes instead. This gives a lifted, fluttery effect that enhances your eye shape without overwhelming it – and you won’t feel like you’re wearing anything. It’s still soft glam, just adapted perfectly to you.
Why a Preview Matters
Every bride I work with has a preview session included in their package – it’s not just a chance to try out your makeup, it’s a moment for us to get to know each other. If you have hooded eyes and you’re unsure what will suit you, we’ll take our time, try a few different placements, and take photos so you can see how everything looks. Most of my brides say it’s like catching up with a friend by the end of it – and that’s exactly how it should feel.
In Summary
If you have hooded eyes, you don’t need to change them – just choose a makeup artist who knows how to enhance them. With the right techniques, soft definition and a few tailored tweaks, your eyes will look lifted, open and glowing from morning until night.
If you’re looking for someone who understands how to make makeup feel effortless and natural, not overwhelming, I’d love to help. My bridal packages include a preview session so we can plan it all calmly, confidently and completely around you.
