really worth it

IS A BRIDAL MAKEUP PREVIEW

When you're planning your wedding, there are so many decisions to make - and one of the most important is how you want to look and feel on the day. One question I hear all the time is: "Is a bridal makeup preview really worth it?" My answer is always yes - and here’s why.

Why a Preview Session Matters

A bridal makeup trial (or as I like to call it, your preview session) is your chance to try things out before the big day. It takes the guesswork out of everything and gives you peace of mind. You’ll walk away knowing what works, what feels good on your skin and how everything will look in photos - no surprises, no stress.

It’s also a chance for us to get to know each other. I spend a good few hours with my brides on their preview day, and honestly, I could grab a coffee with most of them afterwards. We chat, laugh, and by the end of it, you’ll feel like you're in very safe hands.

When to Book Your Bridal Preview

Ideally, book your preview session around three to six months before your wedding. That gives you time to test the look, make tweaks if needed and make sure it reflects your style. By that point, your skin tone, hair colour and general look will be close to what they’ll be on the day, so it gives the most accurate picture.

How to Prepare for It

Great makeup starts with great skin, so in the weeks leading up to your preview, focus on your skincare. Hydrate, gently exfoliate and stick to what works for your skin type. On the day, arrive with a clean, makeup-free face, and bring any inspo photos, dress images or details that show the vibe of your day.

If you can, come alone. Too many opinions can cloud your judgment and make you second-guess what you really want. This is your moment - trust yourself.

What to Expect at Your Preview Session

Your preview is relaxed and collaborative - it’s your space to chat, try things and see what feels right. Here’s what typically happens:

  • Consultation: We’ll chat through your usual makeup style, your dress, wedding details and any photos you’ve saved

  • Skin prep + product choices: I’ll assess your skin tone and type to pick products that feel beautiful and last all day

  • Application: This is where you sit back and let the brushes do the work. It’s not just about the result - it’s a moment to enjoy

  • Adjustments: You’ll have time to take a proper look, ask questions and suggest tweaks. It’s not about getting it perfect first time - it’s about getting it perfect for you

What to Ask During Your Session

If anything is on your mind, now’s the time to ask. Here are a few things worth checking:

  • What lipstick or liner are you using - and will I get a top-up?

  • Any tips for keeping things fresh through the day?
Can I have a photo of the final look to reference later?

  • What happens if you’re ill or unavailable on the day? (I always have a solid backup plan, just in case)

Need a Second Preview?

Most of the time, one preview is all you’ll need - but if you’re between styles or making a bigger change, a second session can be really helpful. This is your face, your day and your comfort - so if a follow-up would help you feel more confident, we’ll make it happen.

Thinking About a Preview for Mum or Someone in Your Bridal Party?

If someone close to you is feeling a little unsure about having their makeup done, especially if they don’t usually wear much, a separate preview session can be a lovely way to put their mind at ease. Mums, in particular, often want to feel polished but still like themselves, and having that moment ahead of time can make all the difference on the day.

In Summary

Your preview session isn’t just a trial - it’s your moment to feel heard, understood, and fully looked after. It’s about building a look that feels like you, and knowing it’s going to last through every hug, photo and happy tear.

If you're looking for an experience that’s calm, collaborative and designed around you, I’d love to hear from you. I’m here to help you feel confident, relaxed and ready to enjoy every second of your day.
