typical wedding day timelines
A GUIDE TO
Your wedding day is one of the most special days of your life - full of love, excitement and once-in-a-lifetime memories. And while it’s tempting to float through it all in a blur of Prosecco and happy tears, a well-planned timeline is what helps everything feel calm, smooth and actually enjoyable. Especially when it comes to hair and makeup.
Why Timelines Matter
Planning a timeline might sound a bit serious, but it’s what makes the whole morning feel relaxed. It gives your suppliers a clear structure, helps avoid last-minute rushing, and means you have the space to really soak up every part of the getting-ready experience.
Bridal Makeup - 60 to 75 Minutes
Your bridal makeup isn’t something to rush. I always allow around 60 to 75 minutes so there’s time for proper skin prep, a beautifully blended look and a few final touches once your hair and dress are done. It’s about giving you space to breathe, chat and enjoy the moment - not just ticking a box.
Bridal Party Makeup - 45 to 60 Minutes Each
Makeup for bridesmaids, mums or anyone else in your bridal party usually takes 45 to 60 minutes per person. If you have a larger group, it’s worth factoring in a second artist or an earlier start. This helps keep everything running smoothly without compromising on quality or calm energy.
When Should the Bride Have Her Makeup Done?
In most cases, I’ll recommend the bride goes second-to-last. It means your makeup is fresh, you're not sitting around for hours, and you’ve still got time to get dressed, open gifts or letters, have photos and speak to the registrar if needed - all without feeling rushed or overwhelmed.
Hair First, Makeup Last
As a general rule, it’s best to have your hair done before your makeup. Hair tools can sometimes create a bit of heat or redness, and we want your skin to be calm and ready for makeup when the time comes. Finishing with makeup also helps it stay as fresh as possible right up until your ceremony.
How I Help Your Morning Run Smoothly
When you book with me, I’ll create a colour-coded schedule for your morning that includes both hair and makeup timings for everyone in your bridal party. It’s made in collaboration with your hair stylist and sent to you around a month before the big day, ready to share with your bridal party so everyone knows exactly where they need to be and when. I also build in short breaks between appointments - time to stretch, snack, or nip to the loo - because no one wants to go from chair to chair without a breather. It’s all about minimising stress and creating a morning that feels calm, easy and fun.
Final Thoughts
A clear, realistic timeline helps you feel calm, keeps your suppliers on track and gives you the space to be present on your wedding morning. It’s all about creating a relaxed, joyful start to the day - no stress, no rushing, just you and your favourite people getting ready for something amazing.
If you're looking for makeup that lasts all day, feels like you and comes with a carefully thought-out morning plan to match, I’d love to hear from you. You deserve to feel calm, cared for and completely confident from the very first brush stroke.
