regular makeup
BRIDAL MAKEUP VS
If you’ve ever looked at the cost of bridal makeup and thought, "Hang on, that’s more than a regular appointment," you’re not alone. It’s a fair question, and one I love answering, because there’s a lot more that goes into wedding makeup than meets the eye. So let’s break it down together.
It’s not just makeup - it’s the morning of your wedding
From the second I arrive, I’m there to bring calm, care, and expert attention, not just makeup. Bridal mornings are joyful but high-pressure, with early starts, lots of people to coordinate, and so many moving parts. I’m not just doing a lovely base and a glowy cheek. I’m managing timings, supporting you emotionally, and helping make sure everything runs smoothly.
There’s more time involved, and not just on the day
A regular makeup appointment usually takes around 45 minutes. Bridal makeup takes longer, often 60-75 minutes for the bride, and that’s not including your preview session (which is included in all my bridal packages). Add on admin, travel, set-up, pack-down, and post-wedding brush cleaning, and we’re talking hours, not just one appointment slot.
Bridal makeup includes a preview (aka trial)
I call them preview sessions (because we’re not in court), and they’re your chance to try out ideas, ask questions, and figure out what makes you feel your best. It’s a completely bespoke service, based on your style, skin, wedding aesthetic and preferences. Most makeup artists don’t include the preview in their prices, but I do.
It’s higher pressure
You’re not just popping out to a party. You’re walking down the aisle. There are tears, cameras, time crunches, and emotions - and I’m there to handle it all. Brides often want their artist to stay until they’ve stepped into their dress, spoken to the registrar, and had a few photos. That’s why I also offer an optional stay-on service for added peace of mind.
Travel, set-up, pack-down
Unlike a regular makeup appointment where you come to me, I come to you, sometimes to more than one location. That means packing my full kit, arriving early, setting up in a busy space, and creating a calming environment in the middle of the chaos. Then, packing down, driving home, and cleaning every brush thoroughly afterwards.
Ongoing support (you’re not just a 60-minute appointment)
From the moment you book, I’m available for advice and questions. I send skincare tips, supplier recs, and even create a colour-coded morning schedule in collaboration with your hairstylist.
Insurance, hygiene and luxury products
As a professional makeup artist, I’m fully insured. I also use a pro kit that’s tailored to all ages, skin tones and skin types - and yes, I clean every single brush after every single use. I also include a complimentary touch-up kit with a lipstick pot and brush, blotting sponge with powder, cotton buds and a lash brush.
Don’t: Fear experimenting with coverage
Many brides worry that more makeup will feel unnatural, but don't be afraid to experiment with slightly heavier coverage. With the right techniques, a professional makeup artist can apply it in a way that enhances your natural beauty and ensures you look radiant all day long.
In Summary
Bridal makeup isn’t just a longer version of regular makeup - it’s a completely different service. It’s calm under pressure, it’s expert guidance and support, and it’s care that starts well before the wedding morning. If that sounds like what you’re after, I’d love to chat.
